Built in 1228 and situated next to the Rialto Bridge in Venice, Fondaco dei Tedeschi is one of the most historically significant buildings of the city. The latest updates have seen a collaboration on the building’s restoration by renowned architects JFA for the retail interiors and OMA for the building fabric. PJC Light Studio worked alongside JFA to develop concepts that would respond to the architectural ambitions of the project whilst meeting the restrictions of this historic building.

The lighting project has been awarded as the Retail Project of the Year at the Lighting Design Awards 2017.

The challenge of the project was to integrate the lighting into the architectural language providing at the same time the correct balance and quality of light suitable for a prestigious store. PJC created layers of interest for customers using discreet installation techniques within the furniture allied with fittings of compact size, low brightness optics and a simple style within the main ceiling to minimise distraction from the interior architecture and design.
